What is recycling?

Recycling is a process to convert waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production. Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" waste hierarchy.

Here at RB Direct Services we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. We help our customers throughout the planning and execution to reducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to help the environment. There are lots of ways to do this. For example:

  • Buy office furniture products that don't have a lot of packaging. Most of the top suppliers are now actively reducing their packaging while maintaining the same protection level previously enjoyed at the same or less cost. Some products are wrapped in many layers of plastic and paperboard even though they don't need to be. You can also look for things that are packed in materials that don't require a lot of energy or resources to produce.

  • Instead of buying something new you could consider a second hand option. Working hand in hand with a number of companies who's sole ethos is reduce, reuse and recycle.

Reduce

Reducing the amount of "stuff" we have around us helps us to reduce the amount of onward waste that is generated each year. Sadly we live in a throw away culture but on a positive note that is all changing.

The next generation coming up is learning new ways of helping us all live more economically.

Reuse

Instead of throwing things away, try to find ways to use them again! For example:

  • We donate some of the waste off cuts of rubber and other wood products to charaties, play grounds and other schools for use in projects they have available to help the next generation learn and grow.

Recycle

This is a home that we all share and its up to each and every one of us to look after it. So we are always looking at new ways to recycle any waste materials or other by products.
